Preparations for an educational trip (Syunik')

Preparations for an educational trip
(Syunik')

For me, an educational trip is the most interesting and useful way to learn something. We learn many things about our country, go to historical places, and much more. We also spend a great time, make new friends and get really close to each other.

This time we have decided to go to Goris, Khndzoresk, Tatev monastery, and many more interesting places. Also, we’re going to climb a mountain and watch a waterfall. Our schedule is really full.

First, we need to prepare for our trip, like we do before all our trips. For example, search some facts about one of the places we’re going to. I have decided to find some information about the village Khndzoresk, which is located in the province of Syunik, near the city of Goris. New Khndzoresk was built in the 1950s. Old Khndzoresk was the largest village of Eastern Armenia. At the end of the 19th century, it had a population of 4200 people, while at the beginning of the 20th century it made up 8300. In 1913 the village had 27 shops, 3 dye-houses, leather workshops, and 7 schools. I found out that the root of the naming of the village isn’t the word “khndzor”, which means apple. Actually, the village was built in a deep gorge, and was initially named “Khor Dzor” or “Khordzoresk” meaning “deep gorge.” Later modifications caused the village to be named “Khndzoresk”, but it still retained its meaning. It is also called the town of caves.

This is just general information about Khndzoresk. It has a historical significance, a long bridge which has a big history too, and also some legends, but I won’t talk about them now.
So, you should just wait for more stories and pictures, cause I’m sure that this trip will be very interesting.
