Educational trip to Lori

Educational trip to Lori

As you know, this time we decided to go to Lori province. We weren't that excited about this trip, albeit we ended up really enjoying it.
On the first day, we assembled at our school and started our trip early in the morning. Our first destination was the Dsegh Seas. To be honest it was much more beautiful than I'd expected and I'd definitely visit that place again, to look at that stunning view one more time. Next, we went to Dsegh village, to visit the home museum of Hovhannes Toumanian, but some of us didn't walk in, cause we'd already been there too many times. Afterward, we went to Alaverdi city and stayed at the guest house for the rest of the day.
The next day, first of all, we went to Alaverdi's school number 5, represented our school, told them about differences from other schools and etc. Then they did the same thing, we sang, danced, recited some short poems and played volleyball. Our next destination was the Haghpat monastery. For me the most beautiful there wasn't the monastery itself, but the stunning view from there. After exploring Haghpat, we went to Sanahin monastery, which, for me, is kind of the last ones sibling. Though both monasteries were picturesque, I liked Sanahin monastery more, because the place was calmer and more relaxing, and gave you the opportunity to really enjoy the nature there. After that, we went back to our guest house, had dinner, and in the evening went for a walk to Alaverdi Art Gallery which is also a branch of the National Gallery of Armenia. There we met Rafael Aghajanyan who turned out to be a very interesting person. He introduced his works and told us very interesting stories from his past, and the history of the Gallery. Most of all I liked some of his unnamed works, and works of Zaven Ohanyan, called “Yes em” (It’s me), “Khaghoghahavak” (Grape harvesting),  “Boutotnuk” (Blunt octopus?), “Yerasht” (drought) and “Lialusin” (Full moon). We spent the rest of the day just talking, playing some games and so on.

Preparations for an educational trip (Lori)

Preparations for an educational trip
(Lori)
As you already know our trip to Jermuk was unforgettable. We had a lot of fun there and are going to remember it for a long time. Anyway, it has been 2 months since then, so I guess it’s time for another trip. This time we’ve decided to go to Lori. Though we aren’t as excited about this one as we’ve been on other trips, we’re still going, because we’re sure we’ll spend a great time. I think each member of our group has been to Lori even once, it’s very familiar to me too because I spent 7 years studying in Vanadzor. I’ve been to a lot of places there, but I think I’ll still learn something from this trip. So, due to a tradition, I’m going to tell you about one of the places that we’re planning to visit: this time its Sanahin Monastery.
Not far from the city of Alaverdi is located one of largest cities of Lori, the ancient settlement of Sanahin known for its unique landmark – the monastery of the 10th - 13th century. Sanahin Monastery rightly included in the list of best landmarks of Lori as a real treasure of ancient Armenian architecture.

Educational trip to Vayots Dzor

Educational trip to Vayots Dzor

Though our last trip was 6 months ago, our group was still there for another trip. This time we decided to go to Vayots Dzor province. The trip started on March 28, we went straight to Jermuk. We were staying at the hotel “Evmari” and, to be honest, I really liked it. So we dropped our suitcases in hotel rooms and decided to go for a little walk in the city. The weather wasn’t cold, but it was snowing. There were lots of massive snow bunches in Jermuk, so while walking and exploring the city, we had a snowball fight. After our walk we just came back to the hotel, had supper together, and as that day was our friend Hayk's birthday, we started celebrating, eating cake, playing games, and just relaxing.

Preparations for an educational trip (Vayots Dzor)

Preparations for an educational trip
(Vayots Dzor)
It’s been 6 months since our last trip. We spent a great time in Karabakh, and still can’t forget our adventures. But its time to start a new story. This time we decided to go to Vayots Dzor Province. I don’t know if anyone from our group has been there, but if so, this is a great opportunity to go there, see new places, learn new things or remember what you’ve forgotten. As a tradition, I’m going to tell you about one of our destinations, this time its Noravank.
Noravank is a 13th-century Armenian monastery, located 122 km from Yerevan in a narrow gorge made by the Amaghu River, near the town of Yeghegnadzor, Armenia. The gorge is known for its tall, sheer, brick-red cliffs, directly across from the monastery.

Educational trip to Artsakh

Educational trip to Artsakh

The trip we had planned a month ago started on October 27th. It was a very interesting adventure and experience for us, and I'm going to tell about it in detail.

Day 1: Our first stop was at the Hayravank  Monastery located on the shores of Lake Sevan. We were impressed by the stunning view of that place. We walked around, had breakfast and continued our trip. Next, we stopped in the Dadivanq Monastery, and after that - the village Vanq, and went to their school. We walked around the school, made new friends, and invited them to our school. Then we went to the monastery of Gandzasar. It was very big and beautiful, and the view was unforgettable. Our next stop was the statue of a big lion carved in the mountain. We took some photos and went to the village Her-Her where the house of Gevorg’s grandparents is. We had supper, played some games, and fell asleep.

Day 2: After breakfast, we decided to go for a walk in the village. We went to the school, met kids who study there. They welcomed us, showed us their school and school gym. We played volleyball and basketball with them and then decided to see 2 very old trees. We invited them to our school and said goodbye. Then we talked with some people who live in Her-Her and walked home. We didn’t go anywhere else that day. We made one of the famous Armenian dishes Harisa and had supper. Also, we went to the Amaras monastery, but for the rest of the day, we were just talking, playing some games, relaxing and having fun.

Day 3: The third day, was full of many interesting places. I think we had the most fun that day. First, we went to one of the oldest trees in the world – Tnjri, and then to a place called Jdrduz, Hunoti Gorge which is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. Our next stop was Shushi. We went to one of the Shushi schools, told about our school, danced Armenian folk dances. They also were invited to our school. Next, we went to Ghazanchetsots church, which is one of the largest Armenian churches. The church was really beautiful. Then we went to Stepanakert, which is the capital city of Artsakh. We didn’t walk in the city, because we didn’t have much time, but I’d like to visit it one more time because it was gorgeous. We just stopped to buy some food there, and also to see the famous statue of Grandmother and Grandfather. Our last stop was the Umbrella waterfall in the canyon Honut. Honestly, I was greatly impressed by that wonderful place, cause I don't find churches and monasteries as interesting as our nature. For me, the Umbrella waterfall and the Honut canyon were the most interesting, gorgeous and unforgettable places of our trip.

Preparations for an educational trip (Artsakh)

Preparations for an educational trip
(Artsakh)

As you know our trip to Syunik’ province was very successful. When we arrived home, we had already planned our next trip. This time we’re going to Artsakh. Only a few of us have been there, we all are going to learn many interesting things about Artsakh. Like some kind of tradition, each of us is supposed to find and learn some information about one of the many places we’ve planned to go to.
This time I’m going to tell about Dadivank. It is located in the northwestern part of Martakert district of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, on the territory of Artsakh's historical province of Upper Khachen. According to the legend, the monastery was founded at the end of the 1st century AD and named after one of apostle Judes disciples, St. Dadi, who martyred preaching Christianity in the Eastern Territory of Armenia. Dadivank was first mentioned in medieval chronicles in the 9th century. The monastic complex of Dadivank consists of the Memorial Cathedral (Katoghike), Church of the Holy Virgin, Chapel, Memorial Bell-Tower and several auxiliary buildings. In the 5th century, the temple became the residence of the Bishop of Aghvan, while afterward it was turned into one of the most significant educational and enlightening centers of that region.
This is all now. More stories and photos – coming soon.

Educational trip to Syunik’

Educational trip to Syunik’

21th of September is the Independence Day of Armenia. It has become a    tradition in our school to celebrate it in the highlands, climbing up the mountains. So, I’m going to write about our trip in details.
This year we chose the mountain Ishkhanac. The big part of our group didn’t climb it, but some students with our history teacher Mr Vardan did. It was really hard, cause the height of the mountain is 3200m. We were back in an hour and were waiting for others to return. Some students got lost somewhere, and others were looking for them. So, after 4 hours, when it started to rain, we found everyone and continued our trip. We went to the store in Goris, bought some food, and went to Mr Vardan’s house in the village Kornidzor. We had supper, played some games and went to sleep.
On the next day, after breakfast, we decided to walk in  Goris. Mr Vardan told us many things about the city, and other villages over there. We went to Old Goris, admired the caves and mountains there. We also were in  New Goris and the house-museum of Aksel Bakunts. After all these, we went to the village Khndzoresk. We saw the famous bridge, went to the church and the grave of Mkhitar Sparapet. Then it started to rain so we had to go back home. So, our day ended with supper and some games.

Preparations for an educational trip (Syunik')

Preparations for an educational trip
(Syunik')

For me, an educational trip is the most interesting and useful way to learn something. We learn many things about our country, go to historical places, and much more. We also spend a great time, make new friends and get really close to each other.

This time we have decided to go to Goris, Khndzoresk, Tatev monastery, and many more interesting places. Also, we’re going to climb a mountain and watch a waterfall. Our schedule is really full.

First, we need to prepare for our trip, like we do before all our trips. For example, search some facts about one of the places we’re going to. I have decided to find some information about the village Khndzoresk, which is located in the province of Syunik, near the city of Goris. New Khndzoresk was built in the 1950s. Old Khndzoresk was the largest village of Eastern Armenia. At the end of the 19th century, it had a population of 4200 people, while at the beginning of the 20th century it made up 8300. In 1913 the village had 27 shops, 3 dye-houses, leather workshops, and 7 schools. I found out that the root of the naming of the village isn’t the word “khndzor”, which means apple. Actually, the village was built in a deep gorge, and was initially named “Khor Dzor” or “Khordzoresk” meaning “deep gorge.” Later modifications caused the village to be named “Khndzoresk”, but it still retained its meaning. It is also called the town of caves.

This is just general information about Khndzoresk. It has a historical significance, a long bridge which has a big history too, and also some legends, but I won’t talk about them now.
So, you should just wait for more stories and pictures, cause I’m sure that this trip will be very interesting.

Our journey to Garni and Geghard

OUR JOURNEY TO GARNI
AND GEGHARD

Today we went to Garni and Geghard with our teachers. The weather was not good, but we’re feeling exellent.
First, we stopped at the Charents Arch and decided to read a few poems. We marveled at the scene, took some pictures, and then got on a bus and went on.
Our second stop was in Geghard. We walked around the church, looked its surroundings, climbed the mountain, lit a candle in the church and decided to taste the delicious Geghard gata. After a good lunch we continued our journey.
The third time we stopped in Garni. We learned a lot about it. We took photos there too and came back to school.
We spent a very happy day for which we are grateful to Ms. Bush, Janna Albertovna and comrade Varduhi.
You can view the photos here.
